How to get your brand cited by ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity
Ranking first is no longer the finish line. Here's what actually makes an AI assistant name your brand as the answer.
By Go Vista AI
Buyers have quietly changed how they research. They ask an assistant, read one answer, and click maybe one link. If your brand isn't inside that answer, the rest of your search strategy is doing half a job.
The good news: citations aren't random. Assistants pull from sources they can parse, verify and trust — and you can engineer all three.
1%
of visits to a page with an AI summary resulted in a click on a link inside that summary

That single number reframes the goal. You are not optimising for the click out of the answer. You are optimising to be the brand named inside it.
Step 01
Be unambiguously identifiable
Language models work with entities, not keywords. Your brand needs a consistent name, description, location and set of services everywhere it appears — your site, your schema, your directory listings, your press coverage.
Contradictions are the fastest way to get skipped. If three sources describe you differently, none of them is safe to quote.
Quick test
Ask ChatGPT "what does [your brand] do and where are they based?" If the answer is vague, hedged or wrong, your entity data is the problem — not your content.
Step 02
Answer the question in the first 60 words
Assistants extract, they don't read essays. Lead every important page with a direct, self-contained answer, then expand underneath it for the humans.
One question per page, answered in the opening paragraph
Headings phrased the way people actually ask
Facts, prices and numbers stated in plain text, not images
No answer buried below three paragraphs of preamble
Step 03
Earn mentions where the models already look
Digital PR is now AI SEO. Coverage in trusted publications, industry bodies and academic-adjacent sources feeds the retrieval layers that decide who gets named.
- Target publications that rank for your core queries today
- Pitch data and opinion, not product news
- Make sure every mention uses your exact brand name
Step 04
Measure the right thing
Track share of citation across the assistants your buyers actually use, prompt by prompt. Rankings still matter — but a citation you don't measure is a channel you can't grow.
The one metric
Share of citation: of the prompts that describe your service, how many name you? Start at 20 prompts, run them monthly, and watch the line rather than the noise.
