Location Pages That Actually Rank: When & How to Build Them

Location pages work when they're useful. Here's how to decide if you need them and what to put on them.

By Go Vista AI

Location pages are one of the most abused tactics in SEO. Done badly, they're thin, duplicate doorways that hurt more than help. Done well, they're genuinely useful resources that rank and convert.

30%

of all mobile searches are location-related

The demand for local information is enormous. If you serve multiple towns or regions, location pages can capture that demand — but only if each page earns its existence.

When to build

Do you actually need a page for this location?

Build a location page when you have something specific and useful to say about that area. If the only thing changing is the town name, you don't need separate pages.

01

You have real customers, case studies or projects there

02

The area has distinct needs, regulations or language

03

You can write unique, useful content for it

04

You're not just swapping town names on a template

What to include

Make the page useful, not just optimised

A good location page answers real questions: do you serve this area? What have you done there? How do local customers work with you? What's different about that market?

  • Specific services offered in that area
  • Local case studies or testimonials
  • Travel information or service-area detail
  • Local FAQs and contact options

What to avoid

The doorway-page trap

Google has been clear for years: pages created purely to rank for location keywords, with no real value, are doorway pages and can be penalised.

Test it

If a user from that town would find nothing on the page they couldn't find on your homepage, don't publish it.

The short version

Build location pages for humans first and search engines second. Unique value, real proof and honest service-area claims are the only sustainable approach.
